2's Morning Program

 Pre-K 2’s Morning Program (8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.)

Purpose

The children that enter the 2’s program are just beginning to form the foundation of language, movement, social skills, and cognitive thinking. The LSL 2’s Morning Program will foster the development of each student at their own pace and to learn through play the important building blocks of learning:  things like sharing, putting together words to form simple phrases, recognizing their colors, letters and numbers, following the morning routines and participating in group activities through Circle Time where they can practice listening and sharing in a group through stories, songs and finger plays. We follow and teach from the KY and IN learning domains and standards.

 goals are to:

+ Build connections between everyday life and the stories in the Bible.

+ Expound upon their sense of awe and wonder about the world.

+ Help each child experience different art mediums with the process as the goal, not only as the end product.

+ To instill a love of reading and discovery through books.

To emphasize a love for learning through fun, developmentally appropriate experiences.

Curriculum

The curriculum for the Pre-K Program uses themed units that go along with the older programs, but at a 2’s developmental level. The 2’s program is centered on the play of the students at each center and is teacher-guided encouraging positive learning experiences. Each day’s lesson emphasizes the week’s theme through exposure to books and letters for language, different craft materials for art, tangibles and manipulatives for counting and experimentation to discover science and math and Bible story time to learn about God’s love. Daily circle time allows the 2’s to work on their listening, communication and sharing skills.

Classroom Set-Up

Our classroom allows space to do large motor activities such as hopping and jumping but also has centers for building their sensory experiences with many different manipulatives. They learn how to share, color, build, paint, shape playdoh, touch and create through materials like sand, shaving cream, water and many other fun tools of experimentation and discovery.
